We had a private room to ourselves at Olive Garden.
There were 10 women + Mariah. Her mom, aunt Shelley, Grandma, 2 of her teacher's - (1 is her voice teacher and the other is the wife of
the guy who's class I taught about Canada in), her dad's fiance, Rebecca's 2 best friends, Kara - (the Youth Pastor's wife), and myself.
We
ordered dessert,
and everyone introduced themselves, and then we went
around the table reading our letters to her. All the letters were very
good, all different but all had a similar theme of her Joyful spirit.
Her grandma went first:
She talked about when Mariah was born, and what a miracle she was because her mom had thought she was going into labour like a month early, and called her mom who got pulled over by the police on the way for speed (but was let go without a ticket), but it was a false alarm.
However
they did realize that she the baby wasn't doing well so they go her out
early, and the cord was wrapped around her neck 2 times!!!
When
it was her voice teacher's turn she said that she thinks God used that
umbilical cord around her neck to shape Mariah's vocal chords to be what
they are today!!
She cried a lot, but her MOTHER was a mess! (I took pictures but let's be honest, no one is a pretty crier- except Mariah!)
I'm sure as a mother to hear 10 women love on your kid and want what's best for her is a sweet thing to hear. She said that all of us, fill in her gaps as a mother at the things she's not good at/gifted in.
Her letter spoke about how she is so talented and she (Mariah) has set such high expectations of her life, that she
prays that she won't experience too much disappointment due to the high
expectations (in a nice way that doesn't sound like she doesn't expect
her kid to succeed.)
Then we all gathered around her, laying hands on her and prayed for her, and welcomed her into womanhood. Here are a few other pictures from the night:

This woman is one of Rebecca's best friends and this was her crying before she even started to read her letter!
