Our flight has been delayed 55 minutes because a train blew up and the planes all have to fly around the smoke.

Our flight leaves Denver at 8pm December, 31st
We will arrive in Detroit at 12:45 am January 1st

Nick in the Airport

2 hours into our flight it will be midnight in Detroit, but we won't be in Detroit Timezone yet.
An hour into our flight will be 9 o'clock Denver Time, and only 10 O'clock Chicago time, 2 hour's later we'll be out of Chicago's timezone, but it will be 11 o'clock Denver Time and 1 am in the timezone we're in. Therefore we won't have a midnight.

In short we'll be flying out of a timezone that hasn't had a midnight yet, and into one that already had theirs.
