I've been reading through Deuteronomy, and it is hard to read through because it's basically a summary of the previous 2 books of the Bible it seems. But I'm still enthralled with the depth behind the words. Do you realize how much Moses loved his people? He's devoted his whole life, 120 years to teaching his people; the Israelites how to live according to God's instructions. Then he's told - guess what dude - you're not allowed to go on with them across the Jordan River (Deut 3:21-->). Seems like the whole book of Deuteronomy he's reminding them, "it's up to you guys, remember all this stuff I taught you, if you do it, you will be blessed!" "Love God - don't worship other god's the way other people do"!!

Talk about a book of last wishes for your family! Wow

Deuteronomy:
4:5 See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the Lord my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it.

4:9 Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

4:35-36 You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other. From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire.

4:^39-40 Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time. 


5:4 The Lord spoke to you face to face out of the fire on the mountain.  (enter 10 commandments again!)

 5:33 Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.

6:1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, ² so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life

6:4-6 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.^{[a] 5} Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. ⁶ These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.   

7:12 If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the Lord your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors.


Is it starting to sound very repetitive?? It goes on and on..... and on and on.....



So when you read this:

Mark 12:28-44    The Greatest Commandment

²⁸ One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
²⁹ “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.^{[a] 30} Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’^{[b] 31} The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’^[c] There is no commandment greater than these.”
  
He really means it!
