When we moved here, it was already winter. It was gorgeous, but over time the snow melted on the mountains and they became grey rocks, still pretty but they lost their magesticness. It has been really cool in the last week or so to watch that 2nd mountain range become white once again. The front range is only about 8000 feet high and not quite high enough for snow to fall and stay, but the 2nd range that peaks between the front range and can only be seen the further you drive away from the mountains are high enough that when it rains down here at 6000 feet, it's snowing up there and staying.

This weekend I took a drive up to the mountains by myself while Nick was at his weekend class and while I was up there, again only about (8000) feet it started to snow and it was beautiful! I don't know if it stayed though.

I went to a town called Central City located near an old miner's town. It was very cool because the gold rush happened here, and there are all kinds of old mining relics. "It was on May 6, 1859, John H. Gregory located, staked, and pre-empted the first mining claims in what was to become known as the "Richest Square Mile on Earth."
The town itself is full of casino's;" eight fabulous casinos: Crystal Palace Casino, Century Casino & Hotel, Doc Holliday, Dostal Alley, Easy Street, Famous Bonanza, Johnny Z's, and The Reserve Hotel & Casino."

Cool Road!

  It looks like it's out of a movie. The buildings are old and adorable and there is an old Opera House! I would loved to have gone there in it's hayday! Wow! You can still take tours of the Opera House; "The Central City Opera House was built in 1878 by Welsh and Cornish miners. This National Historic Landmark, centerpiece of the historic gold mining town of Central City, has hosted performances of the nation's fifth-oldest opera company since 1932." There is a really old hotel there called the Teller House; it once billed as the most opulent hotel west of Chicago and east of San Francisco, some have even said it was the finest hotel west of the Mississippi river.

Needless to say it was really cool to experience this town at my own pace!
